Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight review

The new Nook GlowLight has a better screen and brighter light, but that light is still uneven, its lack of page turn buttons make it difficult to use for lefties, and the overall package can't match the Kindle Paperwhite.

Screen is more pixel dense with deeper contrast ; GlowLight is brighter ; Speedy, responsive performance

No physical page turn buttons ; No improvements to the software or extras ; No MicroSD card slot ; Little space for non-B&N ebooks and files ; GlowLight still uneven

Ever since the first Nook debuted in 2009 each generation has improved on the last. Even when Barnes & Noble radically changed the design, it was done for the better. And each innovation from touch to built-in lights have made new Nooks highly...

Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ review: a high-def 9-inch tablet at an entry-level price

More Info Barnes & Noble announces Nook HD+ 9-inch tablet, we go hands-on Nook HD review: a high-def tablet with the heart of a reader

Brilliant high-res display ; Tempting price ; Device is comfortable to hold ; Good reading experience

Uninspired UI ; Limited selection of apps, multimedia content

With the Nook HD+, Barnes & Noble is offering a nice piece of hardware at a good price. Too bad it's somewhat limited on the software side.

Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet review

Back in April, the Nook Color underwent a magical change of sorts: a software update that transformed the device from a color screen e-reader into an

Excellent video quality ; Expandable memory ; Fast performance for a budget tablet

Upgrades from the Color are relatively minor ; Limited built-in storage for side-loaded content ; 7-inch screen is a bit small for magazines and comics

Barnes & Noble's budget tablet manages to give the Kindle Fire a run for its money, even though it costs $50 more.

Barnes & Noble Nook WiFi

Many who follow the e-reader market keep coming back to the same question: how long does it realistically have left? The explosion of tablets and reader apps for smartphones have left their respective impacts on the space, while the market for devoted...

Clear, crisp reading experience ; Social functionality ; Portability

Somewhat buggy software ; Touchscreen less than ideal for non-reading interaction ; No 3G option

Barnes & Noble Nook review

When we first caught wind of Barnes & Noble's Nook -- a device clearly positioned to give the Amazon Kindle and Sony's options a run for their money

Secondary color screen ; Great selection of books ; E-Ink is easy on the eyes

Sluggish Android performance ; Screens feel disconnected from one another ; Slower refresh rate than the Kindle

Barnes & Noble Nook Review

Large readable E Ink display ; Lower color LCD touch display looks great ; Expandable storage ; Large book catalog

Touch Display is hard to use at times ; Slow refresh on E Ink display ; Lacking blog and magazine content ; Questionable durability ; Unintuitive menu system ; Lag between two displays

Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus (2019)

Barnes & Noble's Nook GlowLight Plus ebook reader has great hardware for the price, but its software and services are limited and buggy.

Big screen. Bright, color-changing front light. Waterproof.

Poor software. Questionable long-term support.

Bottom Line: Barnes & Noble's Nook GlowLight Plus ebook reader has great hardware for the price, but its software and services are limited and buggy.

Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight 3

The Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight 3 illuminates your reading with a warm, color-changing light, but can't get past Amazon's superior ebook selection.

Sharp screen. Color-changing front light goes from blue to yellow. Physical page turn buttons. ePub support.

Sluggish UI. Limited store selection. Awkward for library books.

The Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight 3 is a good-enough e-reader with some unique features for its price. Most notably, that color-changing front light is notable for $119.99; with Kobo, you need to go up to the $179.99 Aura H2O to get that. The screen is...

Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus review

After taking a beating with its Nook tablets, Barnes & Noble smartly retreated and stopped making its own hardware, opting instead to sell Samsung tablets with a custom Nook interface, plus full access to the Google Play Store.

Barnes & Noble's third-generation Nook GlowLight Plus has a sleeker design with an aluminum back, improved lighting scheme, a sharper 300 dots-per-inch E Ink display and a more responsive capacitive touchscreen. Its biggest competitive advantage over...

The aluminum casing has a bit of an edge to it on the front. Nook's ecosystem is good but can't beat Kindle's.

The new Nook GlowLight Plus probably isn't going to make any converts out of Amazon's Kindle customers, but at least Barnes & Noble now has an e-reader with competitive specs and performance to the Paperwhite.

Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus

The Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus is a great waterproof ebook reader for the beach or the bathtub, but the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite remains your best option on dry land.

Waterproof. Sharp screen. Good book selection.

Unintuitive store interface. Slight performance lag.

Conclusions The Barnes & Noble Nook GlowLight Plus is a very good ebook reader if you like to read at the beach or the pool, or in the bath. It has a sharper display and costs lest than the waterproof Kobo Aura H2O, though it doesn't support as many...
