Grado SR80e review

An exceptional and exceptionally odd pair of headphones...

Excellent treble and midrange detail ; Lively sound ; Tight bass

Not the most relaxed sound

Open-back on-ear headphones are a rarity, but Grado has knocked this one out of the park

Grado Prestige Series SR80e review

This is the SR80e, Grado's next-gen version of its SR80 Prestige Series on-ear open-back headphone. It replaces the SR80i and at $99 (£99.95 in the UK, AU$179.00 in Australia), it's easily among the best-sounding headphones you can get for under $100 USD.

The Grado SR80e headphones offer impressive sound for the modest $100 price and are comfortable to wear, especially for an on-ear model. Thanks to the open-back design, stereo imaging is more spacious and natural.

Open-back design lets noise in; beefy plug isn't compatible with many smartphone cases.

While the open-back design isn't good for noisy environments, the Grado SR80e headphones sound exceptionally good for $100 and are also comfortable to wear.

Grado SR80e review: The best-sounding headphones under £100?

Dynamic and wonderfully detailed, these open-backed headphones are a delight to listen to but they're not for everyone

Engaging, detailed sound ; Spacious sound ; Relatively inexpensive

Leaky, open-backed design ; No passive isolation ; Some may find the sound too full on

But then, these are not everyday headphones and, if you listen to headphones mainly at home, then they’re absolutely worth considering. There’s simply nothing else – no other speakers or headphones – that can deliver this level of sonic excellence for...

Grado SR80e HEADPHONES

The Grado SR80e are decent open-back critical listening headphones, but a below-average choice for everything else. They're decently comfortable and have a well-balanced mid-range and a good bass for an open-back design. Unfortunately, they have a...

Lightweight, comfortable on-ear design. ; Above-average, open sound reproduction.

Very high leakage, by design. ; No isolation from ambient noise, by design. ; No audio controls.

Grado SR80e (review): Great headphones for under $100

If you don't need the isolation of a closed-back design or a built-in microphone for cell phone calls, the SR80e is a great headphone for the money.

Grado SR80e review

  (Note Verdeckt)

The Grado SR80e headphones are a step up from Grado's basic SR60e models, with slightly different cables and drivers delivering the sound. They share some of the SR60es drawbacks when it comes to features and portable use, but if they sound even...

Grado SR80e

An generally good headphone at a reasonable price

I find this to be a somewhat tough review to write. I think if I had only purchased these headphones and had no other I would rate them higher; probably four stars. But the fact is I also have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum headphones and the...

generally comfortable; "open" sound stage; price; Grado reputation

a tad strident; unpadded headband

Kundenmeinung (richersounds.com)

Comftable, warm mid range sound, solid built

Went first and foremost for comfort. Sound is good mid range. Balanced for most types of music. Solid build (including thick wires). Nice retro look to them. I use them mostly with my smartphone, so cannot comment on use with separates. Only reason...
